Will reducing the carbon footprint of cargo container ships increase the Green Initiative of American Business?

It has been reported that the cargo container ships sailing the oceans are equivalent to the fuel oil consumption and carbon footprint of the 8th largest nation in the world.   What are your thoughts concerning each manufacturer and producer of industrial/consumer goods to return to the Henry Ford business model of local factories supplying parts/components to regional manufacturing/assembly/distribution centers and marketing the finished goods on a regional/national basis.

Benefits to returning to this previously successful business plan include increasing local employment, employer provided healthcare, and empower the locally employed citizens to increase their cloudt as consumers to help the business economy.

      What say you?
